Behind the Design: A Drawing Room and Dining Room That Blend Traditional Elegance With Modern Details

Hi cuties! I can hardly believe we’re already halfway through October. Time always seems to fly in the last quarter of the year. As we move toward the holiday hosting season, I wanted to share our latest lookbook, featuring our Rosewood Drawing Room and Dining Room designs. When we designed these rooms, we imagined them playing host to holiday moments—gathering around the dining table for Thanksgiving dinner, settling into the sectional while opening presents on Christmas morning, and popping a bottle of champagne to ring in the New Year. The aesthetic in these spaces is updated traditional with a hint of English countryside influences.

The person I imagine would live in this home has taste that skews classic yet unfussy—a balance between stately refinement and contemporary comfort. They appreciate timeless design elements, and want their home to feel livable rather than like a museum.

"Everything is beautiful, but nothing is off limits, and that makes this particular home such an enjoyable place to spend time."

Allow me to walk you through each of these rooms that are warm yet elegant and always inviting.

A Drawing Room That’s Cozy and Refined

Located just off the entryway, the drawing room makes an instant impression as soon as you enter the home. It’s a space that balances traditional elements with clean lines. It feels elevated enough for formal entertaining and relaxed enough for an evening curled up with a good book.

At the heart of the room is our Hartwell Chaise Sectional, an oh-so-comfy piece handcrafted with the utmost care. This collection launched only a few months ago and has quickly become one of our bestsellers. It’s the perfect blend of modern and traditional with a timeless silhouette, curved back, and skirted base. Hartwell is available in 20 fabrics—order free swatches today and discover your favorite! Can you tell I love a good sectional?? But let’s move on to the other pieces that brought this room to life. We added two accent chairs opposite the sofa to make for easy conversations, ideally with a glass of wine in hand. One is a tufted leather swivel chair and the other is a French-inspired Bergère chair with striped upholstery. I love the mix of silhouettes and fabrics—it adds an unexpected touch of character to the room.

The accent tables throughout the space continue the theme of mixed materials. Our team chose a marble and aluminum coffee table, a gorgeous burl wood side table, and an oak console table with beautiful hand-carved details. A textural jute rug sits underneath the seating area and ties the whole room together.

A Dining Room That Pairs Comfort and Quiet Elegance

Like the drawing room, our Rosewood dining room is a study in balance—formal yet approachable, historical yet refreshed. It’s a space that feels collected, grounded, and serene—infused with timeless, English-inspired sophistication, translated for modern life.

At the center of the room is our polished mahogany Levi dining table. This gorgeous extendable dining table makes it a breeze to host large groups. Upholstered dining chairs and an upholstered dining bench invite guests to linger and enjoy long, candlelit dinners amid unhurried conversations. Along one wall, our Juliette settee offers a moment of pause in the space, where a guest might sit with an apéritif before dinner. This piece feels collected rather than coordinated—something that might have been inherited or discovered over time.

A vintage-inspired cabinet displays china and glassware, blending practicality with storytelling—a glimpse into the homeowner’s appreciation for collected beauty. Styled simply with sculptural alabaster lamps and a floral arrangement that shifts with the seasons, the marble-topped sideboard has the appearance of an heirloom passed down through generations.

Layered Lighting Creates a Warm Atmosphere

This time of year, as the daylight hours continue to shrink, light fixtures play such an important role in creating a home that’s warm and inviting. In both the drawing room and dining room, Visual Comfort’s Griffin chandelier offers a sculptural focal point and provides warm overhead light. Sconces add a soft, ambient glow in each space—Visual Comfort’s Griffin sconces above the fireplace in the drawing room, and darling seagrass double-armed sconces in the dining room. Meanwhile, table lamps bring just the right amount of task lighting. We added a pair of our Sorrento paper mache lamps in the drawing room and Visual Comfort’s Ciccio lamps in the dining room.

A Timeless, Earthy Color Palette

"Throughout the home, rich green and burnt sienna hues are balanced with mellow neutrals to create an earthy palette that feels welcoming and timeless."

In the drawing room, the deep green walls and ceiling create a cocooning effect, giving the space a moody, inviting atmosphere. Warm neutrals from the rug, sofa, and decorative accents balance the richness of the green, making the room feel inviting rather than heavy. Accents of gold and natural wood add warmth and a sense of timeless refinement. In the dining room, soft neutral tones create a calm foundation, while olive green drapery adds depth and ties the room to the surrounding landscape. Touches of aged brass, ochre, and rich chocolate brown add to the earthy yet refined palette of the home.
