First up: The wonderfully talented Trish Lynn of Colette InteriorsTrish is the founder and principal designer at NJ-based Colette interiors and I'm sure you'll all become huge fans of her keen eye and effortlessly chic design style. Hi Trish! Welcome to the Kuotes Blog! To get started, tell our readers about Colette Interiors--what are your specialities and core offerings?

Colette Interiors is a full service residential interior design firm specializing in designing spaces that are approachable, elevated, and meaningfully collected.   Collected Living Co. is our home decor shoppe offering unique one-of-a-kind pieces to help personalize your home.    We are based in Chatham, New Jersey, and only take on local projects. We enjoy being immersed in the project and the experience of being on site to help drive our creativity.

What has your experience with the KKH Trade Program been like?

We have been working within the Trade Program since launching our business seven years ago. We appreciate the variety of vendor offerings as well as their customer service and flexibility.

Where do you draw the most inspiration from as an interior designer?

We're inspired by fellow designers, talented trades, vintage and collected pieces, to-die-for textiles, and my love affair with lighting!

Do you have a favorite interior design style to work with on projects?

We design at the intersection of organic and modern, focusing on neutral decor and natural and authentic materials.

How would you describe the style of your own home?

We have a craftsmen style home. We have naturally wooded exteriors and have focused on bringing those exteriors inside through the use of a neutral color palette and natural and soft materials.

As a fellow interiors professional, I'm curious about what you see as the biggest joys and challenges you’ve faced in the design industry.

The joys are client collaboration, trustworthy clients, creative liberties, and the talent of my team and Trade partners. The challenges often involve environmental challenges beyond our control, timelines that don’t allow our creativity to shine, and clients who don’t trust the process.

Are there any interior design trends you see on the horizon for 2023? Any trends on their way out?

I see the return of dark wood, the continued love affair with the color green, curves and arches, thrifted and vintage pieces, and naturally inspired spaces all being big trends in 2023.  Some trends on the way out are the sentiments that white oak rules and that brass is best.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work with an interior designer on their home, but they aren't sure?

As professional interior designers, we have the creative expertise to help guide the process, the knowledge on logistical orders, and the experience in working across trades.

Speaking to fellow design pros: What advice do you have about working a challenging client or overcoming unforeseen obstacles on a project?

Help to guide the process. Be a leader in expectation setting, over-communicate, take responsibility when things go wrong, but set boundaries.
